they stood up
The colonial militiamen followed the British Army after Lexington - Concord towards Boston. The British were looking for cover in Boston. When the colonists got there, they built fortifications to the north, south, and west. The British were protected in the east by the navy.
The British, to aid in their defense, sent troops on the Charlestown peninsula across Boston Harbor to the north. On June 13, 1775 the colonists learned of the British plan. In response, Colonel Willian Prescott, with 1,200 troops went to Bunker Hill on the north end of the peninsula and Breed's Hill, closer to Boston. The colonial militiamen constructed fortifications on Breed's Hill.
On June 17, the British, under General William Howe, with support of naval ships, attacked Breed's Hill. Two assaults were pushed back by the colonial militiamen. The third attack was successful.
The militiamen retreated over Bunker Hill to Cambridge. The British were still in Boston, but soon besieged.
The result was a British tactical victory, but they learned the militiamen could fight well. The Americans had 450 casualties and the British had 1,054.

printers: agents of change
We have seen the "press situation" lately in the election process. This situation is nothing new with the United States. It started before we became a nation. The press plays a major part in framing the nation's thoughts. The press is crucial, then and now.
The notion of unity is fragile. The notion of unity was fragile. The notion of unity will be fragile.
When war broke out in 1775, print acted as a binding agent for the 13 colonies. The first newswire was created in North America when papers "exchanged" articles and editorials. Pamphlets became agents of change throughout the colonies. Usually written by those using pseudonyms, these people threw out ideas that created interest and fortified the views of independence.
Loyalists also published papers and pamphlets that countered the patriot view. The caprice was unveiled to "take on" the Sons of Liberty.
Writers felt they were excellent public servants.
The patriot writers viewed they were protecting people's rights. This gave birth to the writers' view that their publications were protected. This notion grew up to become freedom of the press. This early revolutionary work traveled to the foundation mortar of the Bill of Rights.

a new design language
Hyundai is rolling out a new design language. This should be enough for a growing brand.
Hyundai has split the Genesis name off into its own brand in November 2015. This will be officially announced at the New York International Auto Show. The total look of the car is still under wraps.

The front end does have a classic style. It's a premium look. It's almost BMW-like. Slim headlights. An 8-speed automatic tranmission that's a wonderful luxury feature.
MSRP $37,5000
The Genesis concept opens up new design opportunities. These design concepts give Hyundai's future a marvelous start.

a disruptive brand
Jaguar has scored some excellent marketing results. They are getting new customers. May I add that these particular buyers are not new to the brand. Define a difference within your organization. They knew about the brand before they bought. There is something here I vision. Buyers have brought the brand to a new level within them before they bought.
I discovered an entry from Automotive News on theneeds.com about the Jaguar F-Type convertible. According to the article, 80% of the buyers of this car are new Jaguar buyers. They bought the brand first and then bought the car.
Not all that unique I suppose, but basic I should think. That's OK. Market the brand. Take a lesson from Jaguar.

fiesta roll
When Ford Motor Company prepared the 2010 North American roll-out of the Fiesta, its initial marketing push was solely through social media. Ford supplied 100 people with a Fiesta to drive for six months. They were the right 100 people. They were digital influencers (bloggers, podcasters, YouTube celebrities, and automotive journalists) who produced tweets, videos, podcasts, posts, and articles relating to the Fiesta.
A single Web page was made aggregating all this data where folks could watch the test drive unfold in real time. Ford did not edit, script or delete any of the information. The YouTube videos got 7 million views. There were 40 million tweets that contained the campaign's name ("Fiesta Movement"). 130,000 people registered online to receive more information when the Fiesta went to dealers. 83 percent of those people had not owned a Ford. U.S. brand awareness went from practically zero to 58 percent! Talk about "buzz" creation.
All that "buzz" wasn't mere chatter. Ford converted 10 times more pre-launch purchase reservations into actual orders than it did for previous model rollouts. People got to witness people enjoying the benefits of the Fiesta.
I know this event is not new. I decided to create a post on it since "consumer-driven" brand information is so popular these days. In this case, the 100 people were practically responsible for creating the Fiesta brand. Certainly an excellent example to talk about when thinking of brand engagement.
Information for this post came from the January/February 2011 edition of CFO magazine.

performance brand sales
Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has stated that the Dodge needs to have SRT because Dodge is a performance brand. SRT has been folded into Dodge, but the new Viper will have the SRT badge.
Viper is technically and legally a Dodge due to ID numbers. SRT became a brand in 2011. Did you notice?
Just because Chrysler put the SRT brand onto the Viper, sales should have took off. But they didn't. In 2013 Viper sales were not stellar. Only 591 were sold that year! Granted, the Viper isn't for the general car buying public, but when put it into the performance car mix, Viper didn't rise to the top. Putting the SRT badge onto the Viper didn't drive sales. Sales through April 2014 was 255. Dealers were charges $25,000 to sell the Viper.
Performance brand, performance fee. What about performance sales?
Let's go back to my question. Did you notice that SRT became a brand in 2011? Frankly, I didn't. Perhaps a brand extension, but its own brand, no. Why? Well, no advertising foundation, except through the dealerships. An internal brand then. Is this satisfactory? I think not.
The Viper aside, Dodge has put the SRT badge onto the Charger and the Challenger. I see these two car models as brands themselves! That's just me. If the SRT badge is a brand, could Chrysler recreate it as an umbrella with the Charger and Challenger underneath it?
Should dealerships exhibit new signage? Should a new ad campaign for SRT be launched? These are questions only Chrysler can answer. I say yes, if they want to create new brand awareness.
Does your business have a performance brand or do you wish to create one? If you wish to create one, allow for promotion of that brand. When you do promote, have products in mind that will have the badge. These products need to speak for themselves. That's where visual content marketing comes in.

direct marketing
Direct marketing is a better brand building tool than conventional brand image ads.
Focus on brand reality, because there is no substitute! Brand has power. Brand has status.
Make a brand to increase sales. A brand personality needs worked out!
Therefore, think of brands as people. Opinions are formed with information. Interaction creates more information. This creates more reality - brand reality.
This information creates a conversation for your brand. There is a message in the conversation and this conversation gets passed around. This word-of-mouth approach takes more time and is best in the long run. Your story, created by your customers, needs advertised.
Direct marketing by definition involves a company interacting with its customers. Direct marketing is a powerful brand building tool. Brands built this way really deliver.
Following a strategy which interacts with customers drives sales increases.
A marketer's concentration should focus on the reality of their brand and ways to communicate that attribute to the widest possible audience.
Direct marketing and brand reality are "peas and carrots" that create brand value.
Increase your sales (or following, friends, etc.) and boost your brand value with direct marketing.

pandora's contribution
Drake Baer put together a piece that really interested me. It's about Pandora, and what they've done to frankly change the music industry. Pandora is now the infrastructure for 100,000 artists. 2011 was a big year for Pandora... that's when they really took off.
From the artist's point-of-view, getting the music heard is key. That's it. But that is where all the innovative effort pays off.
That's a place to start. Pandora has taught engagement with an audience. They're getting into the mapping environment. They are taking their product to a new level.
Bands take note. Get on you social platform and create maps of where you've been playing. This means promotion for your product. This will give your fans the knowledge of where you've been. This is a good place to start. This produces a promotion pipe. This builds your brand.
