american revolution overview

Digital History is a remarkable website with information on the American Revolution. It's set up in sections and is well organized. I came across it and wanted to share it with you.

The section I highlight here looks at the causes, fighting, and consequences of the American Revolution. There is information about the emerging patterns of resistance in the colonies, including petitions, pamphlets, intimidation, boycotts, and intercolonial meetings.

The American Revolution was the first modern revolution.

People fought for their independence in the name of certain universal principles such as rule of law, constitutional rights, and popular sovereignty. The website examines the causes, fighting, and consequences of the American Revolution. Learn why many colonists hesitated before declaring independence and how the Declaration of Independence summarized colonial grievances and provided a vision of a future.

that "something special"

Challenge
Create content that stands out. Blogs, news, videos distribute content.
Content must have that "something special" to get noticed.

That "something special" is high-value, interactive content.

It's content that:

  • Incorporates dynamic elements such as videos, animations, and image carosels.
  • Involves the participation or feedback of the end user.
  • Engages the viewer by giving them a role to play in the unfolding story.
Brands are leveraging the power of interactive content. They are telling their story.

One of there interactive approaches is the e-magazine (interactive magazine). This way, cool features are shared. The latest news is published. The users get a great feel of the brands presence.

content saturation

I came across a post on exploreb2b.com that made an impact with me. It deals with content saturation. Too much content to consume! Is that where big data comes in? Just a thought of mine!

This article was written by Johnathan Gebauer and he refers to this saturation as content shock. This is when content loses its quality because frankly there is too much of it.

The solution? We need to change. This post points out items to help with this. Focus and concentrate.

Here are some books that might aid you in content focus and quality.

the magic 6

There is an infographic from Wildfire that was introduced recently which gives us the 6 best practices for social media success. Within the Best Practice # 1 are what I call  "the magic 6" which has to be a core for a social strategy.

These are:
  1. Brand Marketing
  2. Brand Management
  3. Digital Media
  4. Performance Marketing
  5. PR/Earned Media
  6. Social Media (own budget)
These are the parts of a larger strategy at work. They are the trump cards to play.

In future posts I will explore "the magic 6" in more in detail.

In the meantime explore these six areas on your own and prepare to make a plan for your social strategy.

social media metrics

The goal of the social media effort is drive traffic back to your website. We want to convert vists into leads and leads into customers. Measure the number of click throughs from each social media source. Market perception is measured by brand sentiment mentions on social media. Be sure to track the mentions.

The mobility of content of online communities is measured by the times content is shared.
Audience tracking includes:

  • Facebook post likes and shares
  • Tweets directly from content
  • Retweets
  • YouTube likes, shares, and embeds
  • Pinterest repins
  • LinkedIn post likes and shares
The online community measurement is important because it shows brand reach and awareness.

Remember the 4 social media metrics:

  • Increase in community membership
  • Content mobility and engagement
  • Market perception
  • Social conversions
Concentrate on reaching the correct audience.

big data and content

Big data has impacted virtually everything when it comes to content. Remember that Big Data is an umbrella term used by practically everyone who uses it. Big Data is easy to define if used from a purely technical standpoint. Whether we agree on the definition of Big Data or not isn't really important. What needs to be focused on is the use of Big Data.

The bond between Big Data and content is growing.... and growing stronger. The explosion of data needs to be turned into information and content. As we find growth in Big Data, we soon realize that we are contributing to Big Data! How's that for results?

Should we take a step back and analyze this perspective? Most likely. What most want is to turn Big Data into revenue. Easier said than done. We need to focus on the benefits and less on technology. Translated: create value.

Use Big Data to fulfill business goals. This includes marketing. Your goal: turn the raw data into actionable information. Pay attention to how Big Data is used in content management, social business, and marketing.
