american revolution overview

Digital History is a remarkable website with information on the American Revolution. It's set up in sections and is well organized. I came across it and wanted to share it with you.

The section I highlight here looks at the causes, fighting, and consequences of the American Revolution. There is information about the emerging patterns of resistance in the colonies, including petitions, pamphlets, intimidation, boycotts, and intercolonial meetings.

The American Revolution was the first modern revolution.

People fought for their independence in the name of certain universal principles such as rule of law, constitutional rights, and popular sovereignty. The website examines the causes, fighting, and consequences of the American Revolution. Learn why many colonists hesitated before declaring independence and how the Declaration of Independence summarized colonial grievances and provided a vision of a future.

Here's the link:

all the king's papers

King George III wrote about the Revolutionary War. He mainly wrote to himself about the War.

Nearly 350,000 documents from the King are about to be released to the public. These are part of the Windsor Castle's Royal Archives. These papers will reveal how King George III felt about and dealt with the Colonists.

Only a portion of the material, roughly 15 percent, has ever been seen in print. Long a shadowy figure in American history, George III and his world reemerge via his private papers. There are plans to digitize the documents for a new website to launch in January 2017.

printers: agents of change

We have seen the "press situation" lately in the election process. This situation is nothing new with the United States. It started before we became a nation. The press plays a major part in framing the nation's thoughts. The press is crucial, then and now.

The notion of unity is fragile. The notion of unity was fragile. The notion of unity will be fragile.

When war broke out in 1775, print acted as a binding agent for the 13 colonies. The first newswire was created in North America when papers "exchanged" articles and editorials. Pamphlets became agents of change throughout the colonies. Usually written by those using pseudonyms, these people threw out ideas that created interest and fortified the views of independence.

Ben Franklin, Philadelphia printer

Loyalists also published papers and pamphlets that countered the patriot view. The caprice was unveiled to "take on" the Sons of Liberty.

Writers felt they were excellent public servants.

The patriot writers viewed they were protecting people's rights. This gave birth to the writers' view that their publications were protected. This notion grew up to become freedom of the press. This early revolutionary work traveled to the foundation mortar of the Bill of Rights.

that "something special"

Challenge
Create content that stands out. Blogs, news, videos distribute content.
Content must have that "something special" to get noticed.

That "something special" is high-value, interactive content.

It's content that:

  • Incorporates dynamic elements such as videos, animations, and image carosels.
  • Involves the participation or feedback of the end user.
  • Engages the viewer by giving them a role to play in the unfolding story.
Brands are leveraging the power of interactive content. They are telling their story.

One of there interactive approaches is the e-magazine (interactive magazine). This way, cool features are shared. The latest news is published. The users get a great feel of the brands presence.

instagram use

I came across this post on socialmediaexaminer.com which gives a great overview of Instagram marketing.

Most people would probably think of Instagram as a personal platform. The home of the selfie. But the post points out that this platform goes much deeper. Visual content is huge. There have many articles posted on visual influence. You've probably read several yourself. Stories are fortified with pictures.

One item I learned from the article I mentioned earlier, is that Instagram is used to create visual content for other sites. Instagram engagement is detailed by Jenn Herman in a podcast that is very helpful. People can be reached better with Instagram. You'll learn profile optimization and strategic hashtag use. You can use as many as 30 hashtags per post! Keep in mind created images, as popularity is gaining.

many filters to choose from on Instagram

Exploring Instagram is fun and a neat learning experience. Make the time to get more familiar.

power moving content

With so much data out there what have you done to maximize your potential in gathering the data and using it? Do you have a plan? Have you thought of what you're missing? Can "Big Data" deliver performance for me?

We are consuming the content like never before. That's good! But are we putting it to use? What about my brand? How can it benefit?

Produce content for your brand.  Put that content content on Social Media. There! But that's just the beginning of the process. Connect with people in the industry. That's a good place to start. Build your list of influencers. Start with Appinions to identify influencers. This also measures your impact.

Mark Schaefer presented these helpful parameters for standing out in the crowd:

  1. Relevant
  2. Interesting
  3. Timely
  4. Entertaining

RITE

"Power comes from content that moves."

Get a handle on the content that engages readers for brands. Entertaining your audience can't be overlooked. Look for content that includes RITE as well. Keywords are key! Use them to drive other industry content to you.

content saturation

I came across a post on exploreb2b.com that made an impact with me. It deals with content saturation. Too much content to consume! Is that where big data comes in? Just a thought of mine!

This article was written by Johnathan Gebauer and he refers to this saturation as content shock. This is when content loses its quality because frankly there is too much of it.

The solution? We need to change. This post points out items to help with this. Focus and concentrate.

Here are some books that might aid you in content focus and quality.

google+, content and seo

Not just another social network. Google+ now has the second most highest number of monthly users, next to Facebook. Do not lump Google+ into "just another social network" category. First, it is backed by a giant search engine. Google+ is topping the list of social media changes for 2014. It is good for social networking and is vital to improve a business online presence. That brings us to online marketing. Finding that perfect fit is a challenge, but Google+ is a big help in this area. Create good content. I feel if we do this, the Google + "system" will find us. Increasing our page rank is the object of attention these days. Attraction for new visitors is a priority with many. Simply update your content on a regular basis. By updating regularly you will help search engine crawl to your blog and therefore it will help attract new visitors.

social media reach

Your social meida footprint: fans/followers. Fans are a "reach" which translates into the number of people you can reach when all your posts are seen by all your fans. You target along their extended networks.

Networks are fast-paced. The reach is expected to go down! Not all your followers see your updates. Metrics from different networks will give you the data you need to see who you are reaching.

Metrics to consider:

Organic impressions [Facebook impressions]
Google+ Followers [Potential Reach on Google+]
Twitter Followers [Potential Reach on Twitter]
Twitter Reach [ Via Twitter Analytics]

This way you can find your brand reach and make meaning from Big Data.
Marketing strategies should be measured. Measuring social media is trciky, with no one particular way of doing it. Consider that. Consider to create your own system.

Concentrate on what matters.

    social media metrics

The goal of the social media effort is drive traffic back to your website. We want to convert vists into leads and leads into customers. Measure the number of click throughs from each social media source. Market perception is measured by brand sentiment mentions on social media. Be sure to track the mentions.

The mobility of content of online communities is measured by the times content is shared.
    Audience tracking includes:

    • Facebook post likes and shares
    • Tweets directly from content
    • Retweets
    • YouTube likes, shares, and embeds
    • Pinterest repins
    • LinkedIn post likes and shares
The online community measurement is important because it shows brand reach and awareness.

Remember the 4 social media metrics:

    • Increase in community membership
    • Content mobility and engagement
    • Market perception
    • Social conversions
Concentrate on reaching the correct audience.

    skill success

Ever stop and ask yourself if success is a skill? Skill, you might wonder to yourself, was never described as a skill. It wasn't to me. When I had a skill, I had a skill. I didn't think twice to link skill to success. I decided to change my way of thinking. Maybe you have too.

Perhaps we need to look at skill success as successful skills.

    Can you think of any?

Here are some for you and me.

    • Persererance
    • Persistance
    • Vision
    • Sales
    • Selection
    • Initiative
    • Problem solvinh
    • Storytelling
    • Flexibility
    • Resilience
    • Innovation
Put these into your thought processes. Come up with ways put these skills into your organization. Put them into your routine. These may help you improve content and grow your business. There are still enough ideas to go around.

    big data and content

Big data has impacted virtually everything when it comes to content. Remember that Big Data is an umbrella term used by practically everyone who uses it. Big Data is easy to define if used from a purely technical standpoint. Whether we agree on the definition of Big Data or not isn't really important. What needs to be focused on is the use of Big Data.

The bond between Big Data and content is growing.... and growing stronger. The explosion of data needs to be turned into information and content. As we find growth in Big Data, we soon realize that we are contributing to Big Data! How's that for results?

Should we take a step back and analyze this perspective? Most likely. What most want is to turn Big Data into revenue. Easier said than done. We need to focus on the benefits and less on technology. Translated: create value.

Use Big Data to fulfill business goals. This includes marketing. Your goal: turn the raw data into actionable information. Pay attention to how Big Data is used in content management, social business, and marketing.

    in-image

Engagement. A challenge. What can better engagement gives brands? Plenty. How is engagement taken to a new, higher level? That's where the creative community comes in. The creative community is usually open to new, dynamic formats. This is meaningless to brands without delivery to scale.

Engagement has received a profound impact from contextually-related ads on images. Attention is focused on them. These ads have proven better than standard banner ads. New channels are created for advertisers and monetization is created for publishers.

Images need to be understood. Research over the last five years has shown that images are a powerful way to advertise. Have we always doubted that? Apparently so. Even when we have been bombarded with images our whole lives. Perhaps it's putting the image category, as I'll call it, into the online experience.

Technology has come a long way. There are about 5 trillion images online. While not all of them are suitable for advertising, the sheer volume has got to help the contextually relevant ad campaign. To first categorize images, we must first know what images are all about.

There are three basic image "meanings":

    • COMPUTER VISION. For purposes of in-image advertising, programmatic image recognition has so far been geared toward automobile i.d., skin detection and facial recognition.
    • SEMANTIC ANALYSIS. Information about photos can be identified through meta data.
    • HUMAN CLASSIFICATION. Review and enter information about photos.

In-image ads can be served as display overlays or embedded links.

    • DISPLAY OVERLAY. Serve a relevant ad during the time a viewer's attention is focused on the ad.
    • EMBEDDED LINKS. Embedded links within images can convey more information about a photo and send people to the marketer's site.
Examples of both are at the top of this post.

Understand with this kind of advertising, there are creative and targeting strategies to consider. Concentrate on engaging the target audience. This will make the experience more consumer relevant.

    social bookmarking

Website links are important. Links determine your relative internet property value by influencing your web site traffic, your search engine rankings and positions for your important keywords, and ultimately links will influence your online presence. Every internet marketing strategy must include a robust process of website link building. Social bookmarking is one of those methods that should be combined with other web linking strategies to achieve online success. Since social bookmark links do not scroll off of a social bookmark site or lose value over time, (if anything they gain value over time) it is in your best interest to have your web site url AND all of it's important interior page urls to ALSO be socially bookmarked in all the important social bookmark sites on the internet.

The practice of social bookmarking is not an exclusive club.

Social bookmarking links will tend to accumulate more tags over time if the social bookmarking site receives a fair amount of traffic.
