printers: agents of change

We have seen the "press situation" lately in the election process. This situation is nothing new with the United States. It started before we became a nation. The press plays a major part in framing the nation's thoughts. The press is crucial, then and now.

The notion of unity is fragile. The notion of unity was fragile. The notion of unity will be fragile.

When war broke out in 1775, print acted as a binding agent for the 13 colonies. The first newswire was created in North America when papers "exchanged" articles and editorials. Pamphlets became agents of change throughout the colonies. Usually written by those using pseudonyms, these people threw out ideas that created interest and fortified the views of independence.

Loyalists also published papers and pamphlets that countered the patriot view. The caprice was unveiled to "take on" the Sons of Liberty.

Writers felt they were excellent public servants.

The patriot writers viewed they were protecting people's rights. This gave birth to the writers' view that their publications were protected. This notion grew up to become freedom of the press. This early revolutionary work traveled to the foundation mortar of the Bill of Rights.

Stories that appeared in each paper were “exchanged” from other papers in different cities, creating a uniform effect akin to a modern news wire. The exchange system allowed for the same story to appear across North America, and it provided the Revolutionaries with a method to shore up that fragile sense of unity. - See more at: http://blog.oup.com/2016/11/press-impact-american-revolution/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=oupacademic&utm_campaign=oupblog#sthash.NQV1FXq6.dpuf

the accord hybrid

The Honda Accord Hybrid is back to go on sale this spring. It's a 2017 model. Honda has not released the detailed pricing yet. The car model was off the market for a year.
It's similar to the 2015 model. However, it does sport an increase of 16 HP to 212. It has a combined mileage of 48 MPG. This helps the Accord Hybrid to become a leading midsize hybrid sedan.

The model went through a total re-engineering of the powertrain that includes new electric motors and a revised 2.0-liter Atkinson gasoline engine. Honda Sensing, the brand's name for its suite of autonomous and electronic safety system, is standard in the Accord Hybrid. That includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot warning.

supercomputing boosts team and driver

Announced March 31st, Honda and IBM will partner to equip Formula One (F1) racecars with data and technology sensors. The sensor will pull data to allow the racing team to amend and implement their strategies during a race.

Drivers will have access to this data as they are on the track.

Real-time racing decisions, based on this data, could very well revolutionize race driving. Pit stops can be made from information instead of intuition. Obviously, patience will tested during the transition process.

F1 is based on fuel conservation, strategy, and car mechanics.
F1 is now more about car design.

McLaren Honda, based in the UK, is implementing IBM's Watson IoT technology though its cars' hybrid engines. The research from this process will be used in Honda's production of consumer vehicles.

As the race goes on, this data is streamed to the cloud and shared with pit crews equipped with tablets. Information is also shared with researchers at Honda R&D for adjustments in temperature, pressure and power.
